Sustainability: at the heart of Swartland’s mission

On 13 November 2019, Swartland hosted its annual factory tour and Continual Professional Development (CPD) event, opening its doors to professionals in the architectural industry in the Western Cape.

As is the case every year, the successful event proved popular with the visiting professional. As a validated Category 1 CPD event, not only did it help them obtain a CPD credit for active learning, it also educated them about the sustainability of timber.

Sustainability is defined as a practice that does not reduce the long-term productivity and availability of natural resource assets on which a country’s income and development are dependent. If managed correctly, timber is a natural, sustainable and renewable resource.

Swartland’s presentation on the day exposed the participants to good-practice principles with regard to sustainability in the joinery industry and provided them with industry-leading knowledge in this field. This kind of knowledge is becoming increasingly important today, allowing all professionals in the built environment to contribute to the conservation of resources.

In addition to the annual factory tour, Swartland’s in-house architectural professionals offer in-office CPD events at clients’ offices.
