Cutting List:
– Off cut from TP22x220x1.8mPAR ——1 x 22mm x220mm x700mm (depending on the width of your bath)
– Off cut from TP22x44x1.8mPAR——–2 x 22mm x 44mm x 320mm
Step 1 : Dimensions
Determine the dimensions and width of your bath tub to custom make this DIY bath tray the bath width in this DIY project was 700mm in width from edge to edge
Step 2 : Sand
Sand down the wood pieces until edges and surfaces are smooth and wipe off excess sawdust.
Step 3 (Part 1 ) : Measure, Mark and placement
Measure placements of the candles in the top two corners by drawing a square 50mm in size from the edge and draw diagonal lines of each corner that cross in the centre to mark out the drill point.
Step 3 (Part 2 ) : Measure, Mark and placement
Measure and mark the centre of the 2 x 22mm x44mm x320mm, measure and mark the centre of the 1 x 22mm x220mm x700mm, line up the centres and measure and mark a 30mm spacing between the two 22mm x 44mm x 320mm length pine pieces.
Step 3 (Part 3 ) : Measure, Mark and placement
Remember that the one 22mm x44mm x320mm lays flat on its 22mm side, and the other spaced 30mm under that one pine wood piece lays flat on its 44mm side.
Step 3 (Part 4 ) : Measure, Mark and placement
Measure 100mm from the right-hand side of the board 22mm x 220mm x 700mm, then draw a line that is 200mm in length vertically and that is 10mm in width, this fits the wine glass stem width used, be sure to custom this to other wine stem glasses as thicknesses can vary.
Step 4 : Drill the tea light candle holes
Insert the 38mm spade drill bit into the power drill and place the tip on to the centre of the two squares on the two corners of the board 22mm x220mm x700 mm.
Hold the drill firmly and perpendicular and drill until the spade drill bit drills a hole into the pine wood that is about 3 to 5mm in depth.
Step 5 : Cut out the Wine Glass stem slot
Insert the 10 mm wood drill bit into the drill and drill a hole at the top edge of the 10mm x200 mm marked out Wine glass stem slot.
Then take a jigsaw and cut out the two lines to the top of that drilled hole to remove that section of pine wood. Sand any rough-cut edges. Wipe away excess saw dust.
Step 6 : Paint/ Stain Finish
Use a wood stain/ paint colour in your choice to colour and decorate the wood.
Apply with a paint brush or rag depending on the application instructions and allow to fully dry. Apply 1 to 2 coats.
Step 7 : Glue
Now that all the wood pieces are covered, we can use the water-proof wood glue and glue down the 2 x 22mm x 44mm x 320mm wood pieces into place as marked, use clamps to secure and allow the glue to dry. Its is a good idea to place something that is 30mm in width as a space between the two wood pieces as the glue dries.
Step 8 : Seal
Use a water-proof clear sealer and cover the entire bath tray using a paint brush and following the product application instructions. A clear polyurethane was used in this project, allow the sealer to fully dry and apply one to two coats.
Once the second coat is dry, the Bath tray is ready for use, relax in the tub and enjoy your new DIY project.
